Oracles
DATA--->ORACLE--->BLOCKCHAIN
An oracle is a bridge between the blockchain and other forms of data from the real world, off-chain markets (anywhere not natively on-chain!).
They act as on-chain APIs you can query to get information into your smart contracts. This could be anything from price information to weather reports. Oracles can also be bi-directional, used to "send" data out to the real world.
In the case of Vertex, we use the Terra validator node network as a reference point for our leveraged contracts and their underlying markets, allowing our liquidator bot network and market participants to be sure that contracts are fairly priced and perform as required!
